Biographies
José Carreras
José Carreras (en catalan : Josep Carreras i Coll) est un artiste lyrique espagnol, né le 5 décembre 1946 à Barcelone. Réputé pour ses interprétations d'œuvres de Donizetti, Verdi et Puccini, il a notamment participé aux concerts des Trois Ténors, aux côtés de Plácido Domingo et de Luciano Pavarotti.
Atteint depuis les années 1980 d'une leucémie qui le contraint à suspendre sa carrière, il a créé une fondation consacrée à la recherche sur cette maladie.

Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi (/dʒuˈzɛppe fortuˈniːno franˈt͡ʃesko ˈverdi/), né Joseph Fortunin François Verdi le 10 octobre 1813 à Roncole et mort le 27 janvier 1901 à Milan, est un compositeur romantique italien. Son œuvre, composée essentiellement d'opéras, unissant le pouvoir mélodique à la profondeur psychologique et légendaire, est l'une des plus importantes de l'histoire du théâtre musical.
Verdi est l'un des compositeurs d'opéras italiens les plus influents du XIXe siècle, son influence comparable à celle de Gioachino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini, Gaetano Donizetti et Giacomo Puccini. Ses œuvres sont fréquemment jouées dans les opéras du monde entier et, dépassant les frontières du genre, certains de ses thèmes sont depuis longtemps inscrits dans la culture populaire comme « La donna è mobile » de Rigoletto, le « Brindisi » de La traviata, le « Va, pensiero » de Nabucco ou la « Marche triomphale » d'Aida. Les opéras de Verdi dominent encore le répertoire de l'art lyrique un siècle et demi après leur création.
Peu engagé politiquement, il a cependant autorisé l'utilisation de son image et de ses œuvres dans le processus de réunification de la péninsule italienne et demeure de ce fait, aux côtés de Giuseppe Garibaldi et de Camillo Cavour, une figure emblématique du Risorgimento.

Born: 25 September 1927 in Weybridge, England, UK.
Died: 14 April 2013 in London, England, UK (aged 85).
Sir Colin Rex Davis CH CBE was an English conductor and was particularly noted for his advocacy of the music of Hector Berlioz and of Sir Michael Tippett. In 1960, he was appointed chief conductor of Sadler's Wells Opera Company, a post he held until 1965. After he left Sadler's Wells, and being passed over as principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, he was named chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, effective September 1967, serving the orchestra until 1976. From 1971 to 1986, he was principal conductor of the Orchestra Of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In 1977, he became the first English conductor to appear at Bayreuth. From 1983 to 1993, he was chief conductor of the Symphonie-Orchester Des Bayerischen Rundfunks. In 1995, he was appointed principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra; Davis was the longest-serving principal conductor in the history of the LSO, holding the post from 1995 until 2006, after which the orchestra appointed him its President.
Amongst many awards and honours, he was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1965, knighted in 1980, and appointed to the Order of the Companions of Honour (CH) in 2001.
He is the father of conductor Joseph Wolfe.
