Biographie

Colin Vearncombe (né le 26 mai 1962 à Liverpool en Angleterre) est un chanteur anglais. Il a lancé sa carrière au sein du groupe Black et a connu le succès avec son titre Wonderful Life classé pendant 20 semaines au hit parade dont 5 semaines en deuxième position.

D'autres titres, Sweetest Smile et Feel Like Change (gros succès en Afrique du Sud) sont passés plus inaperçus. Il a publié quatre albums majeurs au cours des années 1980 et 1990.

Après une disparition de la scène médiatique en 1993 due en grande partie à un conflit avec son ancienne maison de disques, il entame en 1999 une carrière en solo avec l'album The Accused, sous son propre nom, obtenant un succès d'estime.

Très actif sur Internet, il propose régulièrement des morceaux gratuitement téléchargeables.

Il parcourt l'Europe pour donner des concerts à dimension humaine. L'ensemble de ses œuvres est disponible sur Internet.

Son style est proche de Bob Dylan et de Paul McCartney, préférant des mélodies acoustiques et des textes proches de l'expérience personnelle, souvent mélancoliques voire tristes.

Le 10 janvier 2016, il est victime d'un accident de la route en Irlande, entre Schull où il vit et l'aéroport de Cork. Souffrant de graves blessures à la tête, il est plongé dans le coma. Il meurt seize jours plus tard, le 26 janvier 2016, à l'âge de 53 ans.
