Mamemo

Mamemo is a Belgian French-language music group for young audiences.

Since 1979, Mamemo has been an integral part of Belgium’s Francophone cultural heritage. That year, Martine Peters – a Belgian PE teacher – and Olivier Battesti – a French musician who had worked with Steve Waring – founded this musical group specialising in children’s songs. Success was immediate, with their first show, ‘Bonjour la nuit’, and their first album, ‘Les bonbons’.

Since those early days, the group has produced a succession of shows, books, CDs and musical cartoons, creating a visual and musical world that draws on both pop art and world music. With the cartoons broadcast in around forty countries, Mamemo became a character with a mop of curly blond hair, accompanied by his green cow, living in a mischievous and poetic world.

In 1982, the association for the promotion of children’s songs, ‘Autre chose pour rêver’, chose the title of one of Mamemo’s songs as its name.

Originally consisting of the founders’ duo, the group has expanded over the years – in addition to the accompanying musicians – to include the musical contributions of Marc Keyaert and Céline Struelens, and the graphic design work of Michel Delvaux and Olivier Marcoen for the creation of the Mamemo cartoons.

A new 3D animated production is currently in the works with the support of Belle Production and France 3.
