Biography

Zinno is a Belgian band formed in 1985 by Frédéric Jannin and Jean-Pierre Hautier.

The band came into being following a meeting between Frédéric Jannin and Jean-Pierre Hautier on the one hand, and Dan Lacksman of the band Telex on the other. Lacksman had acquired a new Fairlight sampler and was extolling the possibilities of this new technology to Jannin.

Jannin and Hautier began recording an album in Lacksman’s studio, based on the soundscape of the James Bond films. After an initial session, Marc Moulin, who was overseeing the project, suggested bringing in professional backing singers, a role that would be filled by Maurane and BeeJay Scott. The result was ‘What’s Your Name?’, a global hit.

The group continued to exist as an occasional project for its two members until the death of Jean-Pierre Hautier in October 2012.
