Biography

Pierre Péchin, born on 10 February 1947 in Montbéliard (Doubs) and died on 29 January 2018 in Marly-le-Roi (Yvelines), was a French comedian.

He is famous for his prank phone calls on Europe 1 radio.

Career

After graduating from the Cours Simon in 1972, he turned his attention to cabaret.

In 1974, he created J'peux pas jouer at the Café d’Edgar and recorded it as a 33rpm album with Sylvie Joly as his co-star. Success came very quickly: in 1975 he received the SACEM Comedy Award, and in 1976 he was crowned Meilleur Humoriste de l'année.

Between 1975 and 1977, Pierre Péchin was a regular guest on the Carpentier couple’s television programme Numéro un, appearing on the show eight times.

Hired by Europe 1 for two years, he carried out five thousand prank calls with Alexandre Marcellin and Jean Châtel, and played to a full house at the… Olympia on thirteen occasions. He subsequently continued his prank calls on RMC.

From 1989 onwards, although he gradually faded from the media spotlight and stopped appearing on television, Pierre Péchin continued to perform on stage, such as at the Lyon cabaret ‘Le Distingo’ in December 2002.

In 2005, he performed at the Cabaret du Heuhaus in Eguisheim, near Colmar in Alsace.

In 2006, he performed in a new show, La cigale est de retour, at the Théâtre de Nesle in Paris’s 6th arrondissement, from 8 March to 9 April.

On 25 February 2006, *Le Figaro* featured an article about him, followed by an interview on *Nostalgie* and an article in Ici Paris published on 7 March 2006. Invited by Pierre Perret to appear on the programme Vivement Dimanche on France 2, broadcast on 23 April 2006, he took part in the programme Vie privée, vie publique, broadcast on 3 May 2006, then continued his performances in May and June 2007 at the Théâtre de Nesle; on stage from 6 to 24 June 2007 at the Théâtre du Gymnase in Paris for his latest show, Tout le monde me regarde. A DVD was released the following May and the comedian continued a cabaret tour.

From October 2014, he took part in the ‘Éternels du Rire’ tour, which performed throughout France until mid-December.

Personal life

Pierre Péchin had two daughters: Johanna and Roxanne.

He died at his home in Marly-le-Roi on 29 January 2018 from cancer. His funeral took place on 7 February 2018 in Noisy-le-Roi (Yvelines).
