For over twenty years, Marc Lavoine has successfully alternated between romantic and rebellious songs. It’s worth noting that our singer – even if it means arousing male jealousy – has many (vocal) strings to his poetic bow. A deep, velvety voice, a sharp pen, a captivating stage presence and an attractive appearance. In short, all the ingredients needed to create a high-quality popular song, of which he is an illustrious exponent.
Born in Longjumeau, Lavoine grew up in a modest family with communist leanings. The voices of Ferrat, Ferré and Reggiani mingled, in the soul of a teenager who already dreamt of becoming an artist, with those of Gainsbourg and Françoise Hardy, his favourite singers. As early as 1985, thanks to the success of “Elle a les yeux revolver”, he embarked on a career characterised by a dual repertoire. Album after album, he revealed himself to be a charming singer exuding the faded scent of withered loves: “Pour une biguine avec toi”, “Tu me divises par deux”, “Chère amie”, “On n’ira jamais à Venise”, “Le pont Mirabeau”, “Dis-moi que l’amour”, “Toi mon amour”,…
Whilst also expressing the rebellious spirit of a socially conscious citizen: “The Angels’ Car Park”, “The World Is So Stupid”, “30-Second Love”, “That’s France for You”, “Myriam”, “Men Are Just Like Women”… Also an actor since his early youth, he has pursued a prolific film career in parallel. His roles in Claude Chabrol’s *L’enfer* and, more recently, in Marc Esposito’s *Le cœur des hommes* and *Toute la beauté du monde*, have cemented his stature as an actor.
Today, with a flawless artistic career behind him, Marc Lavoine stands at the pinnacle of fame and public acclaim. This biography, featuring over 400 documents, aims to give you a deeper insight into the career of an artist whose talent is matched only by his discretion. A comprehensive discography and filmography accompany this book.
