Born in Brooklyn, New York, Tony Visconti developed a passion for music at a very early age. At the age of 23, after gaining experience with various jazz and cabaret bands, he set off for London to uncover the secrets of the British recording studios. Whilst Tony Visconti’s name remains closely associated with that of Marc Bolan (T. Rex) and David Bowie – with whom he forged genuine friendships – he played a crucial role in the careers of many other singers and bands whose records he produced, and consequently in the history of rock. A talented, inventive and generous musician, he is rightly regarded as one of the greatest producers of all time, on a par with his ‘mentor’, George Martin.
His autobiography reads and feels like a fantastic journey through the music of the last forty years. Tony Visconti, with a genuine talent for storytelling, offers us a unique, sincere and essential account of his craft.
