Ten years after his death, Pierre Rapsat’s songs still resonate within us. ‘Les rêves sont en nous’, ‘Passagers de la nuit’, ‘Illusions’, ‘Judy & cie’, ‘Ensemble’, ‘Jardin secret’, ‘L’Enfant du 92e’… All remarkable highlights of a career cut short so abruptly one night in April 2002. He was 53 years old. Born in Brussels and based in the Verviers region in the east of the country, Pierre Rapsat began playing at dances in the mid-1960s, before trying his luck in France in 1973, pioneering a style that blended rock and French chanson. Ten years later, he found success in Belgium. With sixteen studio albums to his name, Pierre Rapsat left his mark on his era, setting stages alight wherever he performed. This biography traces his life and career, through the eyes of his family, his musicians and all those who knew him well. Around a hundred people, including Adamo, Alain Chamfort, Michel Fugain, Jacques Higelin, Bernard Lavilliers, Lio, Maurane, Yves Simon and Alain Souchon, share their memories of the man who, in his own way, made us dream. His journey was fraught with obstacles, but each time, with a determination born of his passion for music, he picked himself up, charting an exemplary course.
