What’s new on Discology?

Although Discology has been in existence since 2005, I have unfortunately only kept records of updates from 2016 onwards. Before that date, updates were posted directly on the homepage, without a database, and only the last three were retained!

As Discology is constantly evolving, some links in the news section may no longer exist: I have therefore disabled them and indicated them in italics.

212026

NewThe artist profiles now feature photographs.
NewDiscology is getting into the Halloween spirit, and other key dates throughout the year also have a little surprise in store for you, but I won’t say any more: you’ll have to come back and find out!

The website also offers visitors a dark mode for a more comfortable browsing experience.
NewDiscology is available in English!
For the time being, these are machine translations by DeeLl, and you may come across the word ‘charts’ where we mean ‘classification’ (record rankings), but the main work is well under way.
Only visitor comments have not been translated, so as not to distort the original meaning.
NewOver 460 official artist websites and around fifteen fan sites, all verified, have been added to the links page
NewBooks now have a dedicated page displaying details: cover, information, back cover and the artists featured. In addition, the page lists other books from the same series, on the same artist or by the same author, and visitors can leave a comment on the books.

The search engine now provides more accurate results; the best example is ‘The The’, which used to return hundreds of results but now returns just two: ‘The The’ (obviously) and ‘The Mamas & The Papas’, which contains the word ‘The’ twice...
NewThe world map of artists has been moved from the statistics section to its own dedicated page. This allows users, for example, to list artists from a selected country and to navigate to this page by clicking on the country from an artist’s profile.

On record details pages, you can now navigate through the other records in a series (previous/next record)

The rankings page has been redesigned with the percentage bar in its own column for better readability, and I have also added a new table showing the breakdown of genres by decade
New- Record details: option to show or hide the credits for each track (producer, musicians, etc.)
- Search: new ‘In the credits’ section to find a record by a producer, musician or label
- Statistics: the traditional pie charts have been replaced by vinyl
records - Labels: there is now a page dedicated to labels, accessible via the records
menu - Album anniversaries: also via the records menu, a page now lists albums celebrating a milestone anniversary (10 years, etc.)
- Interactive world map: in the artist statistics section, the world map is now clickable and allows you to list all the artists from a particular country
New- Biographies: the ‘Biography’ section from Wikipedia is added when the introduction is short (fewer than 150 words)
- DeepL translation for English Wikipedia articles if they do not exist in French, and for Discogs biographies.
- Concerts: concerts previously mentioned in biographies are now managed separately and have their own section in the artists’ menu
NewI’ve set up a system again to keep track of the records I’m listening to and have managed to recover the old data. That leaves a four-year gap, but at least we’re not starting from scratch! And I have to admit that I’m still listening to the same records over and over again, and enjoying them just as much :-)
NewThe series are back! Hit Connection, Master Series and the like now have their own pages, listing all the volumes in the collection, in numerical order (or by year, or by title – it’s up to you). And when a record is part of a series, its entry will indicate this.

Records not listed on Discogs are now displayed on a dedicated page rather than in a pop-up window.

Biographies now draw on the French Wikipedia to ensure the information is always up to date. And when information isn’t available, we turn to my own biographies or, as a last resort, to the Discogs biographies in English.

I’ve also set up a list of the gigs I’ve been to! Until now, these were tucked away in the biographies; they now have their own dedicated page, organised by year, and each artist’s page shows when I saw them live.

Another busy day and I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to restore all the features we used to have :-)
NewWhen you scroll down a record’s page, a banner remains fixed at the top of the screen so you can keep an eye on the key information and actions.
This was already in place for artist profiles :-)

Another old feature has returned: you can now filter record lists by format. And it’s so handy!

The smartphone and tablet versions have been improved.
NewToday, some features are making a comeback after several years’ absence. But sorry, this time it’s not for you but for me!
I can now create a wishlist of tracks to listen to and also mark the records I’ve listened to. I used to do this very regularly before switching to Discogs data.

Otherwise, I’ve put together a little surprise for you, but unfortunately, for the time being, it requires a bit of effort on your part: click anywhere (not on a link!) on a page, then hover your mouse over the record in the banner or the site title, and a little surprise awaits you.

I’ve also set up a window showing details of records not on Discogs.

I’ve also added two questions to the FAQ. :-)

Lots of other little features and improvements have been made, but they’re really just minor details and it would be too tedious to list them all here...

What, you want an example? All right then... In the artist statistics, beneath the pie charts showing births and deaths by year, I’ve added the ‘richest’ year… For example, for births, at the moment, it’s 1969… That’s a bit of a shocker, isn’t it?!

Are you greedy and want another example? On the homepage, for events (births and deaths), I used to say ‘born’, whereas now I can specify ‘born male’ or ‘born female’ directly depending on the artist’s gender…Ah yes, that’s what I meant when I said it was all in the details!!!

So, anyway, on a more serious note, it’s a whole host of little details like that which have been added…

In my view, these latest updates make the site truly efficient, secure and comprehensive. Don’t be surprised if it stays as it is for a while :-) Even though it will continue to be updated with new acquisitions (thanks, Thierry!)
NewNew features have been added to make the site even more user-friendly...

Firstly, several of you told me that being able to click on an artist in the results list for a record after a search was confusing, and that you’d expect to be taken to the record’s page rather than the artist’s profile. I’ve taken your feedback on board and made the necessary changes: the record tables now link to the records, and the artist tables link to… the artists (well done, you’re keeping up!). What’s more, you can click anywhere on a row in the table to follow the link.

The site’s ‘gems’ and ‘favourites’ have become fully-fledged filters in the album view. This option allows you, for example, to find all the albums in the “Progressive Rock / Krautrock / Psychedelic” genre (as if by chance!) that are also ‘gems’ and/or ‘favourites’… And as I know you’re going to give it a go, here’s the magic link…

Books have also been given a bit of a spotlight, particularly thanks to their details being displayed in a neat pop-up window, and you can also find books by searching for an author – such as Frédéric Delâge, purely by chance!

This new version has now reached a level of polish that I’m delighted with and, I must admit, makes me rather proud. I hope you’ll enjoy it just as much as I do!

I hope you enjoy your visit
NewThe artist profiles now feature a new ‘Songs’ section: all the tracks by that artist in the collection, along with the records on which they appear, including compilations and records by other artists.

The search function also returns results for songs: type in a song title, followed by the artist’s name if you wish, to find out which records it appears on.
NewFinalising the latest changes and adding new gems and favourites
New

New ‘Records’ section

The menu now features a ‘Records’ section, which brings together rankings, reviews and a few new features:
- a ‘❤️ I love this record’ button on each entry, so you can vote for your favourite records;
- a ‘Favourites’ page featuring visitors’ favourite records and my own;
- ‘Gems’, my rarest records;
- statistics on the formats in the collection.
NewDiscology has had a makeover! The website now features a new layout across all pages, smoother navigation, and a design optimised for both computers and smartphones.

Among the new features:
- The homepage has been reorganised: key figures for the collection, today’s events, latest records added, record of the day, news and latest comments.
- Record listings showcase the covers with a full-screen viewer. You’ll also find the track listing, credits, the Discogs community’s rating and links to listen to the full album on YouTube or Spotify.
- Comments can now be posted directly on the record page, and a new page brings them all together (under the ‘Miscellaneous’ section).
- Record lists (search results, charts, artist pages) can be displayed either as a list or as a gallery of album covers.
- Searches are faster, even when returning hundreds of results.
- Events (births and deaths) can be browsed month by month, without having to wait for the page to reload.
- The ‘Humour’ and ‘When They Were Children’ pages can be browsed like a slideshow. And for the children, there’s a little game waiting for you: hide the names and guess who’s behind each photo ;-)
- The books, links, FAQs, statistics and news sections have also been completely redesigned.

Please do let me know what you think, or let me know if you spot anything that doesn’t seem to be working, via the contact form. Enjoy your visit!
NewNew: MisterGames, a site offering free games to play directly in your browser, with no registration or downloads required!

Over 50 games await you, on both computers and mobiles: arcade games (Pac-Man, Snake, Breakout, Formula 1…), puzzle games (2048, Petdoku, Test Tubes, Towers of Hanoi…), card games (Freecell, Spider, Skyjo, 6 qui prend !…), games of chance and quizzes.

Come and have a go: www.discology.be/MisterGames
I’ve made a major fix to a bug in an artist’s discography: ‘DIO’ was also returning records by ‘DION’ – two very different worlds :-D

Other, more subtle corrections have been made, particularly in the display of books linked to an artist.

The display has also been improved for search results, artist profiles and the page listing records not listed on Discogs and my personal compilations.

You can now view the ‘Record of the Day’ history :-)
Under the ‘Rankings’ link, the ‘Not listed on Discogs’ link shows you the entries I haven’t (yet) found on Discogs – yes, they do exist! – and the ‘Personal compilations’ link, which lists the CDs I’ve put together – in another life :-)
In response to attacks involving attempted code injection, I have tightened up the procedures for adding comments.

The contact form has also been fixed :-)

82025

- Added an internal search engine for books
- Added “a few” books (and there’s more to come!) — thanks, Thierry :-)
- Fixed a few display
bugs - Improved the display of record details
A new system has been introduced allowing visitors to comment on records. And the good news is: the old comments have been recovered! Please feel free to comment on your favourite records!

Reorganisation of the layout of the record page
I’ve fixed a few display bugs.

I’ve also improved the results for records associated with an artist. For example: when searching for the band IF, the discography also suggested Jimmy Cliff (Cl-IF-f), but this has now been corrected, or at least greatly improved!

I’m having a problem with the Discogs API, which regularly fails to respond... I’m looking for a way to get round this issue.
I’ve finally decided to start from scratch with the design, with the aim of laying a solid foundation and finally having a responsive website! My mobile visitors will no doubt appreciate it :-)

I’m still no great web designer, so the interface remains very simple… but at least it’s clear and functional – or so I hope!
Another small improvement to the way books are displayed: when the back cover text is too long, it is hidden by default, with the option to show it. This prevents the page from becoming miles long ^^
Minor improvements to the books page:
- the layout used to change on smartphones for books without a description.
- I took the opportunity to improve the interface and add the option to sort by title.

The site’s news page has also been revamped:
- displayed by year to avoid an excessively
long page - links in the news items have been disabled to prevent dead
links
To mark its 20th anniversary, Discology is upgrading to version 4.0!

I’ve been working on the interface and adding the missing tools so that I can officially release this new version to you.

I’ve also fixed a few bugs relating to accented characters (though I may have introduced a few more).

I’ve reinstated the biographies/discography page and improved the search page, which now also allows you to search by artist and by book.

I’ve also improved display performance by avoiding calls to the Discogs web service when not necessary
A new version of the website is currently being developed… It’s based on the Discogs API, but for the time being, it’s only available as a beta test as I’m still facing a few issues and setbacks.
Firstly, the API doesn’t allow searches within my collection, which is rather surprising but, above all, frustrating as it means I’m losing some functionality. A workaround has more or less been put in place, but I’m not entirely satisfied with it yet ^^
What’s more, some of my records aren’t available on Discogs. You might say I could just add them myself. Have you ever tried adding a record to Discogs? It’s a right nightmare! In short, this means I have to combine the data managed on my site with that from Discogs. Again, a solution has been put in place, but I’m not entirely convinced by it...
Anyway, if you’d like to have a look, you can follow the link below, but I should warn you, it’s still very much a work in progress xD

http://www.discology.be

Oh yes, and so that I can focus fully on this new version, you’ll notice that records are no longer being added to this version...

22023

Improved performance of the quick search engine (top right) with more relevant results
- Major code optimisation for improved performance… The record statistics page is a very good example of this: its loading time has been reduced from over 8 seconds to around 3 seconds!

- Option to browse in gallery or list view

42022

For some time now, I’ve been experiencing session issues when trying to access the site’s admin tools... I’ve finally got round to sorting out the problem!
I’ve also taken the opportunity to add some management features that hadn’t yet been adapted to the new version, such as the management of visitor comments...
A bug has been fixed that was rendering the record comment form unusable...
A brand-new version of Discology, designed to be responsive – that is, compatible with all screen types: smartphones, computers, tablets, etc.
The search engine has also been revamped for even greater efficiency!
After more than three months without a turntable or CD player, I’m delighted to be able to start listening again… But these technical problems didn’t stop me from buying records… Now it’s a case of catching up on all the listening I’ve missed :-D

162021

Major overhaul of the advanced search engine:
- addition of country of release
- inclusion of coloured records, picture discs and autographs
- Simplification of the URL for clearer and more user-friendly sharing (only the search criteria being used are sent, unlike before when all criteria were included, resulting in a very long URL)
- Enhanced security
- Optimisation of queries for improved performance
Improvements to the handling of 404 errors (page not found)...

To make browsing more user-friendly, I am now attempting to redirect:
- the old ‘miscellaneous’ pages to books or humorous images;
- direct links from album covers to the record’s page or, failing that, the artist’s page.

There are, of course, still genuine 404 errors for which there is little I can do, other than invite visitors to use the search engine or the navigation menu.
Implementation of new tools to help me better understand the website’s traffic...
Attractive ‘pie charts’ now feature on the various statistics pages… Notably showing the breakdown by chart position, by format, by country of release, and by the months of birth/formation and death/break-up of artists and bands…
Repair of a few broken links following the separation of the humour images and books, which previously shared the same ‘miscellaneous’ image directory, and automatic redirection of visitors to the page they were looking for.
All the management tools have now been updated with the new interface, and the site’s security has been further enhanced...
A lot of work has gone into the quick search engine... The results are now more comprehensive and sorted by relevance.
The links page is back...
Implementation of a ban system for malicious IP addresses
The return of Clix and the games overview page ;-)
Enhancing the website’s security (next step: switching to HTTPS) and implementing more effective management tools, particularly for handling 404 errors and search queries...
The record player is back with a few improvements to the display...
Improvements to the jigsaw puzzle album covers, particularly regarding the display of progress. Furthermore, the selected piece is highlighted more clearly and a few small effects have been added to the pieces when the mouse hovers over them.

The return of ‘Memory’, a memory game where you have to find matching pairs of records...
Discology 3.0 is here!
After a long period of development, I’m delighted to present the new version of the website, which I hope you’ll enjoy.
I’ve tried to make the site as ‘responsive’ as possible, although I know I still have a few issues to sort out and a few pages to adapt (such as the games, for example, but that’s not what we’re here for, is it!)
Enjoy your visit, and I look forward to hearing your feedback, comments and suggestions ;-)
A minor bug has been fixed in the record statistics relating to the number of picture discs...
A few improvements have been made to the way record ratings are managed, including the ability to list all of a visitor’s votes...
Implementation of an automated system to retrieve the minimum, average and maximum sale prices from Discogs.
Complete revamp of the ‘Reading’ section (accessible via the ‘Miscellaneous’ menu). The books are presented in two sections: those I own and those I have read without owning them.
Furthermore, you can now sort the list according to three criteria: author, publisher and year.
I have taken the opportunity of this update to add the many books that were not yet listed.

192020

Digipacks, but not only...
Until now, only the Digipack format was specified. I can now specify any special features of the record sleeve (metal sleeve, gatefold, etc.)
The system is up and running and has already been integrated into the advanced search engine, but as always, I now need to update the information...
Discology has changed its web host!

A huge thank you to Jérome from the Konsult Concept website for his great advice and help!!!
Following further hacker attacks (this is the third time!), Discology has been down since Monday 22 June.
I am working on strengthening the site’s security – which is already robust – but I suspect that the security provided by the hosting provider, One.com, is also a factor in the problem!
A major update has been carried out on the quality of the album covers featured... Over 1,200 covers have been replaced, and there are now only around forty covers left with a resolution of less than 275 pixels (in width and/or height)...
Implementation of the artist’s gender (M / F / group)... For the time being, this is only used on the home page to specify ‘born on’ and ‘died on’, but it will be extended to other pages. I will also add a breakdown by gender to the artists’ statistics page.

The search engine now allows you to search for records within a range of years (p) and, for me, based on their purchase price.
FINALLY! Ever since the new Discology design was launched, I’d noticed a problem with printing the pages. The header banner (with the logo, search bar and drop-down menu) was repeating on every page and, worse still, was obscuring the first few lines.... I’ve finally found a solution to sort this out and get cleaner printouts.

I took the opportunity to disable printing for a whole host of sections, such as the form for adding a comment on a record.

A few very minor aesthetic tweaks have also been made to the site, such as the separator line, which used to look like this:

and has now become this:

Songs: a major task converting the versions listed in brackets at the end of each track title into a specific field.

Aesthetic update to the site’s administration section, particularly regarding publishers/distributors and media formats, and modernisation of the ‘buttons’ used.
I realised that bots (particularly Google’s) were voting left, right and centre for the records... I’ve set up a system that should prevent these votes...

So, I’ve reset all the votes! Please do feel free to share your thoughts on your favourite albums!
Visitors can now rate each album on a scale of 1 to 5 stars...

I’m curious to see how this turns out ^^
As I’m not really an expert in web design (as you’ll have noticed ^^), I’m doing my best to make Discology ever more user-friendly...

In fact, if you’d like to help me redesign the site, please don’t hesitate to get in touch ;-)

Today, I’ve been working on the layout of the comments left by visitors to the site, whether on the dedicated page, on the homepage or next to the relevant record…

The form for leaving a comment has also had a bit of a facelift, as has the search bar in the top right-hand corner...
The way the artists’ discographies are displayed has been redesigned and now offers a more relevant layout. Vinyl records and CDs are now organised into three categories: studio albums, live albums and compilations.
To make the website even more interactive, I have set up some polls which I will update regularly. You can now answer the first two questions.
After careful consideration, the slideshow on the homepage will ultimately feature a list of my 16 most recent listens...
Improvements and customisation of the slideshow on the homepage. The slideshow now features a random selection of 16 albums and offers multi-directional scrolling.
Some Discogs links weren’t working due to special characters (Cyrillic, etc.). The problem has now been sorted ;-)

If you encounter any problems on the site, please do let me know! Thanks in advance!!!
A new slideshow has been added to the homepage, featuring 10 of my favourites in random order...
New game: Clix

Try to clear all the discs from the grid. To do this, click on a disc that has at least one identical neighbour (above, below, to the left or to the right. Diagonals do not count)

Clix
A few minor improvements to the Hangman game: you can now type in the letters you want to suggest (rather than clicking on them)...
Another little game… And this time, I’m offering you a version of Hangman where it’s not your life that’s at stake, but Assurancetourix’s attendance at his village banquet…

212019

A new game has been added: Memory...

This is a good opportunity to create a ‘Games’ section in the ‘Miscellaneous’ menu ;-)
As a Christmas present, I’ve put together a little game for you called ‘Record Eater’, based on the famous Snake game...

You play as a DJ and have to catch as many records as possible (from a selection of 5 albums chosen at random from my collection).

You can access it via the link in the ‘Miscellaneous’ menu or simply by clicking here.

Have fun ;-)

Note: this game only works on a computer, not on a mobile phone.
Allow me to extend my
best wishes
to you (click on the link)
I’ve made a few improvements to the jigsaw puzzle:
- display of the number of pieces correctly placed
- button to display the cover
art - a button to shuffle the pieces
- a button to change the number of pieces
- a button to return to the record’s
details page - indication of which pieces are correctly positioned
- correctly placed
pieces cannot be moved
If you have any suggestions, please do let me know!!!

Turn your favourite album covers into jigsaw puzzles!!!

The idea had been niggling at me for a while… But I hadn’t got round to making it happen until now! You can select a record and use the cover as a jigsaw puzzle by clicking the green button just below it.

You can also set the number of pieces (from 3x3 to 20x20 for the most ambitious among you!)

Have fun!
To offer even more variety on the homepage, the Top 10 now features a random selection from all the records available on the site.

I’ve carried out a major overhaul of the rankings! Some records will certainly still need to be moved to the wrong category… Please do let me know if you spot any!
There you go! With the exception of ‘a few’ Simple Minds records*, all the records in my collection available on Discogs have a direct link to the correct pressing...

* I realised that not all my Simple Minds records were listed on Discology (as I have a whole website dedicated to this band), but to provide a complete overview of my collection, I’ll be adding them soon... At a rough guess, I’d say I still need to add 200 to 300 items (including lots of bootleg cassettes, 7” singles and CDs)
It’s coming along, slowly but surely! I’ve still got about 1,250 records (out of over 7,900) to link directly to Discogs… I never imagined this task would be so time-consuming and labour-intensive...

However, going through my entire collection, record by record, has led me to identify some gaps in the information and areas where the site could be improved.

I’ve started by reviewing the names of the formats and organising them more logically...

I’ll soon be adding the information I consider relevant and useful...
As you may have noticed, the ‘Find on Discogs (ref.)’ and “Find on Discogs (title + artist)”, available on each record’s page, sometimes lead to an endless list of listings on the Discogs website, and it isn’t always easy to navigate your way through them to find the exact listing I’m showing you…

That’s why, where possible, they’re gradually being replaced by the ‘View on Discogs’ button, which will take you straight to the exact entry in my collection.

At present, over 2,000 links have already been added; I’ve only got 5,000 left to set up (we keep ourselves motivated however we can ^^)
In the biographies, I can now link to a record or a song by another artist... Example: Keith Moon, who was a member of The Who, and whose biography mentions tracks by the band...
With just one click, you can now search for a full album on YouTube.

However, this feature is not available for compilations featuring multiple artists.
Apparently, the contact form wasn’t working (and I reckon it’s been that way for quite a while :-/ ), but it’s now up and running!!!
A lot of work has been done to address issues detected in certain song titles (particularly with apostrophes and invisible characters at the end of lines). This clean-up makes the search function even more accurate and the list of songs by artist even more effective.

You can now (at last!) view the history of developments and improvements made to Discology.
The advanced search engine for songs has been further revised and streamlined.

However, you can now search for a song by its duration, which may prove useful for finalising a playlist or setting music to a video (private, of course) of a specific length.
Improvements and simplifications to the advanced search engine: the drop-down lists used to specify certain ‘yes/no’ criteria have been replaced by single-selection options (radio buttons, for those in the know ;-) )… Faster and much more convenient!!!

In addition, a bug in the song search function has been fixed and the search system has also been improved.
Listening history: Previously, I could only record the last date I’d listened to a record, and I thought it was a shame to lose that information and ultimately not be able to see how often certain albums came back onto the turntable… So I’ve modified the system, which now allows me to record an unlimited number of dates for an album. This will also let me see which albums are played most often. The layout still needs some work, particularly with a monthly calendar rather than a list…

Favourites Coup de coeur: This section will present (the list still needs to be expanded!) a personal selection of records that have had a particular impact on me. I’ll try, as far as possible, to write a short review for each of these records...
Following the hosting provider’s change to a new version of PHP (thanks to One for letting me know just six hours before the change!), I had to revise the search results page, which was no longer working.

I took the opportunity to make some minor changes to the advanced search form and add a few pieces of information that are now available (such as the year of release (p), the distributor or whether the record is on order).

I’ll certainly be returning to this page very soon, but for now, I’m on the hunt for all the little bugs caused by the PHP version change...
Following the purchase of a huge batch (over 160 records), I found myself with a large number of records to listen to. Rather than keeping them in boxes until I’d listened to them (and thus cluttering up my living room), I’ve added the option to tag records as ‘Awaiting listening’ so I can organise them and keep in mind that the record hasn’t yet been played on my turntable…

Furthermore, I can now also specify the date the record was last played. At the moment, this information isn’t being used, but I’ll be setting up a playback history feature soon.
Visitors may not be particularly interested in this new feature, but when it comes to encoding a record, I’ve added the option to copy the date of the last record added and the last recorded place of purchase with a single click of a button... It’s very handy when encoding batches of records, as you don’t have to retype the date every time or select the place of purchase from a drop-down list that gets longer by the month :-)
As the number of rankings has grown, I have decided to display only my 20 favourite rankings in the menu. A link is available to view all the rankings, which can be sorted either by preference, by number of records, or finally in alphabetical order.
For the sake of consistency, I have replaced the ‘Latest Arrivals’ section on the homepage (which listed records by their catalogue number, including those on order) on the homepage with the section ‘Latest acquisitions’, which is more logically organised by the date of purchase or receipt, as you can see in this section.

132018

After two months offline, the website I’ve dedicated entirely to Simple Minds has just gone back online and can be accessed at the following address:

http://www.discology.be/CelebrateSimpleMinds

Don’t forget to update your bookmarks ;-)
For the biographies, there were already links to the records. Links have now been added to the song titles. If both a record and a song exist, the link will prioritise the record.

In the ‘Miscellaneous’ menu, the ‘Some links’ section has been added, offering you websites organised into different categories: Fun, Useful, YouTube, Partners
In the ‘Records’ menu, a new link allows you to view the breakdown by country of release...
You can now select a format for the distribution pyramid by year of release (©), available on the statistics page in the ‘Records’ menu or via a link added to that same menu.
The list of songs by a particular artist has been updated; pages now load faster and the search function is more accurate, returning fewer duplicate results.

Similarly, the page listing the appearances of a particular song has been updated and now provides a more comprehensive overview of the records.
The ‘Acquisitions of the Month’ section (which wasn’t really one) has been replaced by a search function based on the date the records were received... This not only allows records to be sorted directly and correctly into the right categories, but also, thanks to the new tool available in the ‘Records’ menu, enables users to view the history of their acquisitions.

Similarly, the ‘On Order’ section is being replaced by a new setting that indicates when a record is on order...
In the song lists, the Dailymotion and Vimeo buttons have been removed – they weren’t particularly relevant anyway… The handy button for finding your songs on YouTube is still there ;-)
The year of release (℗) is now taken into account in searches; a minor display bug affecting the latest acquisitions on the homepage has been fixed; and the country of release is now shown in the same section.
To ensure greater consistency, I have added several categories, which meant I had to carry out a general restructuring and reorganisation of the menu.
The statistics now include coloured records, picture discs and signed records.

Furthermore, for my own convenience, I have completely overhauled the interface for adding and editing records...
Records belonging to the same series are now grouped together and can be accessed directly via a new menu option. The sub-menu lists the 15 largest series (in terms of number of records), but all series can be accessed via the link at the end of the list.
I have added a great deal of additional information about the records, such as:
- the year of publication (℗) in addition to the year of release (©)
- the country of release
- the distributor
- the barcode (which I can now distinguish from the catalogue number)
- the condition of the sleeve
- the condition of the record
- whether it is a coloured
record - whether it is a picture disc
- the names of the people who signed the record (and possibly a date)
- the date and place of purchase
- the name of the person who gave me the record
Now, all that remains is for me to incorporate this information into the search functions and various display options, as well as going through my 6,000 records one by one to complete the details (which were very often noted in the form of a comment)
April 2018 has been a month full of new acquisitions... I’ll leave you to discover them in the section created for this purpose: ‘New additions this month’.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to let you know that on my YouTube channel, I also post a monthly video showcasing my new acquisitions...

The track numbering has been revised and now distinguishes between sides A and B on vinyl records.
I therefore have a lot of updating work ahead of me, as for LPs and 7-inch singles, I need to go through the records one by one to correct the existing track numbering.
Furthermore, once the track numbers have been updated, I also intend to tackle albums comprising multiple discs so that the information is consolidated onto a single page.
It is now possible to view a band’s or artist’s discography in two ways: either chronologically (across all formats), which was the case until now, or by format (a new feature in this update).
Buttons have been added to make it easy to find a record on Discogs, either by catalogue number (best results) or by the ‘Artist / Title’ combination.
On the homepage, the ‘Last 10 records’ section has been renamed ‘Latest arrivals’ and has been redesigned to provide all the relevant information about the record at a glance.
Over 300 records were still awaiting song title entries. Over the last few days, I’ve been working flat out to complete this information. I now have just under 30 records left (out of over 5,000 entries, which isn’t bad!), but these are more complicated ones, such as classical music or compilations (where the performer has to be specified each time). However, I’m determined to finalise this encoding so that I can provide you with the most comprehensive information possible.
Following a complaint and a claim for no less than 227 euros for the use of a photograph that does not belong to me, I have decided to remove all the photographs of the artists :-(

The photos will be reinstated gradually, as I check (one by one for all 1,800 biographies!) that they are indeed royalty-free...
The record popularity page now displays a ranking counter and allows you to select the number of records to be displayed on a single page.
In response to growing demand, I’ve set up a Facebook group to enable you to buy and/or sell your records, musical instruments or music-related books. Join us now!
The biographies now feature links to other artists. These links are not automatic and will be added gradually... A good example to start with: Genesis!
If you have any other suggestions for improvements, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Welcome to Discology 2.0! I’ve revamped the navigation, moved the menu and made it simpler.
The way the books are displayed has been updated to make browsing easier. Furthermore, the books now appear in the results of quick searches (search box top right). If you search for ‘Metallica’, for example, you’ll get the following result.
Restructuring of the menu and reorganisation of genres and formats to ensure greater precision in the classification and browsing of records.
The ‘Wishlist’ section, which has been on Discology for a very long time and is meant to list the albums I intend to buy, wasn’t really serving any purpose for me… But now, I’ve decided to make the most of it and update it to help guide my searches in record shops.
And as I’d like to treat you, I’ve also revamped the navigation on the pages displaying records, and you can now choose how many records you’d like to view at a time.
The website has just switched to https, but I’ve been told there are still a few issues, particularly with the images… I’ll sort this out as soon as possible to ensure your browsing experience is as smooth as possible.
The addition of numerous albums recently has caused a bit of a delay in encoding the tracks, but I think I’m now up to date :-)

As a Christmas present, I’ve finally sorted out the accent issue that was still causing problems with the quick search…
I wish you all a very happy festive season!
As this musical genre is taking up an increasingly significant part of my collection, I’ve decided to create a Metal / Hard Rock ranking...
See what your favourite singers looked like when they were children or younger, thanks to our brand-new section...
The inventory is finally complete! No fewer than 205 albums and 232 singles have been added to Discology, which now features over 4,300 entries... Full details here.
I’m currently comparing my collection with the Discology database… I can already tell you that dozens (if not hundreds) of records have been added!
A look at what I’ve been reading – always music-related, of course :-)
