Biography

Jacques Debronckart, born on 13 January 1934 in Chartrettes, Seine-et-Marne, and who died of cancer on 25 March 1983 in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, was a French singer.

Early in his career, he first sang as part of a duo with Jacky Scala, with whom he wrote his first songs and made his stage debut in 1953. They remained together until 1959. Later, he acted as accompanist to Boby Lapointe and Maurice Fanon, accompanying himself on the piano whilst performing.

In 1964, Georges Brassens decided to perform for three months at Bobino and included four female singers in succession as his support acts, giving them each a chance: Christine Sèvres, Michèle Arnaud, Barbara and Pia Colombo. At that time, the latter was accompanied on the piano by a certain Jacques Debronckart.

He was also a composer and lyricist for musicals such as Les Aventures de Tom Jones, performed… at the Théâtre de Paris. He performed at the Port du Salut, the Écluse and Bobino, the music-hall on the Left Bank. He recorded his first single in 1965 and, in 1967, his first LP.

Jacques Debronckart is known for having composed songs for Gribouille, Isabelle Aubret, Marie-Thérèse Orain and Christian Camerlynck.

He is buried at Batignolles Cemetery, section 25 (Paris).
